NeuroIntegration Therapy
Questions and Answers

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback addresses problems of the brain not connecting properly. It is a process to assist the brain to function better. Neurofeedback is direct training of the brain, which then learns greater control, stability, and allows the central nervous system to function better.

What is NeuroIntergration?

This is a type of biofeedback. The body has a limited capacity to sense information coming from inside itself. However, if you monitor any biological process, amplify it, and feed it back to the brain, your brain can change it.

NeuroIntegration Therapy addresses problems which includes anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD/OCD, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, head injuries, memory loss, migraines, PMS and sleep disorders.

NeuroIntegration Therapy is training in self-regulation. Self-regulation is a necessary part of proper brain function.

Why is NeuroIntegration different from other biofeedback therapy?

NeuroIntegration uses photic stimulation. Photic stimulation guides your brainwaves into a correct pattern while the music and visual rewards the brain for changing its own activity to more appropriate patterns. Eventually, the brainwave activity is “shaped” toward more desirable, more regulated performance.

How is NeuroIntegration Therapy Helpful?

By re-training abnormal brainwave patterns, we are assisting the brain to function better rather than curing a condition. A problem of disregulation is not a disease to be cured, however when disregulation is a problem, self regulation may improve or eliminate symptoms entirely. For example, a person with ADD may be able to train their brain to pay attention, so that condition will no longer be diagnosable.

The EEG NeuroIntegration system works like a mind mirror, showing you how your brain is functioning, and telling you if you are on the right track. EEG biofeedback is based on electrical brain activity.

How does it work?

Application of electrodes are placed on to the scalp to record brainwave activity. We process the signal by computer and extract the information about certain key brainwave frequencies. We show the ebb and flow of this activity level. Some frequencies we wish to promote. Others we wish diminish.

This information is presented to the person in the form real time EEG readings and brainwave patterns. Depending on what frequency is being trained, clients generally report feeling more relaxed and focused after their sessions. The frequencies target specific locations on the scalp where the EEG electrodes are placed for specific conditions being addressed for each individual.

Could you explain more about brainwaves?

Your brain produces four distinct types of brain waves. People usually have a mixture of frequencies at any given time, but the dominant frequency varies depending on the state of consciousness and on individual differences.

A normal focused waking state consists of primarily Beta waves in the brain. When you close your eyes and relax, Alpha tends to be produced. Theta normally is only produced briefly when you are starting to fall asleep. Delta is normally produced when you are asleep.

When you have brain irregularities caused by injury, your brain may have too much frontal theta or delta being produced when you are supposed to be awake and alert. By re-training these abnormal patterns in the affected areas symptoms and disorders are often improved or eliminated.

How long does the training take?

Sessions are usually one to three times per week, but each person is different. Some receive benefit almost immediately while others may need a series of sessions to stabilize their brainwave activity. The number of sessions depends on the type of problem, the age of the person, and many other factors.

How can I expect to feel after a session?

Depending on what frequency is being trained, clients generally report feeling more relaxed and focused after their sessions.

Will the training last, or is it temporary?

The type of neurofeedback training we offer here is permanent. Neurofeedback helps to improve functions such as concentration, short-term memory, speech, motor skills, sleep, energy level, and emotional balance.

Is there anything you can suggest for me to do so that I improve my training sessions?

Yes, eat a high-protein, low-sugar diet. Do light exercise, walk, or swim as often as possible. You should drink 8-10 glasses of water daily. You should get plenty of sleep, especially just before and just after your session. If possible, avoid all refined sugars and aspartame. If you like red meat, eat lean meat. If you are a vegetarian, include whole proteins in your diet. Take nutritional supplements to maintain a healthy body and brain.

If I am on prescription drugs, can I stop taking them?

Your physician is the only one who can advise you to reduce, increase, or eliminate dosages for you. Never attempt to change your prescription without medical advice. It’s important that you notify your physician you are receiving EEG neurotherapy. Children with ADD and adults with genetic unipolar depressions are often able to gradually decrease or even discontinue their medication. Keep in contact with your physician.

What if I am taking medications?

Most medications do not interfere with getting results with EEG neurofeedback. With successful neurofeedback training, medications targeting brain function my no longer be needed, or they may be needed at lower dosages, as the brain takes over the role of regulating itself.

How much does this training cost?

The fee for the initial hour and a half evaluation is $150. Each follow-up treatment session is $100 per 45-minute session (actual time on the EEG is 30 minutes). If a series is needed discount packages are available.
